Eranhipalam is a part of Calicut Corporation;and is situated about three kilometers away from Calicut railway station It is by the side of Wayanad Road and is very near to Calicut Civil Station Calicut Devlopment Authority has developed a colony there at Eranjipalam in an area of Seven Hectors of land. More than 314 families reside in that coloy, in 7 multistoried buildings of Governmentof India, and, clusters of buildings built by C.D.A.and some single houses. The only open space for the people residing in this Colony is that, which is earmarked by the Authority. The sea shore which is 3 kilometers away from Eranjipalam,is the other nearest place for them to enjoy fresh air. But now it is heard that C.D.A. is going to sail out this bit of land to construct multi-storied building. May be in preparation of the sail, a basketball court in this area is going to be demolished. The Backboard and Basket is taken away. In the picture we can see young men playing Cricket in the Basketball court, striped off the backboard.

At this juncture Eranjipalam unit of "Sahayathri" plunjed into the affair, and in cooperation with the "Welfare Committee" of the colony, a writ petition is filed in the High Court of Kerala. The court has passed an interim stay order. Advocate Mrs. Arlis Trency Antony pleaded the case for both the associations. It will hear the case immediately and a favorable judgment is expected. We don't know whether the authorities are aware of the importance of exercise.

Sir,

Sub:- Play Ground at Eranhipalam, Kozhikode

"Sasthri Nagar" is a residential colony developed by Calicut Development Authority. It is 3 Kilo Meters away from Mofusil bus stand Calicut and situated by the side of Wayand Road. District Co-Operative Hospital Calicut, Regional Pasport Office, Employees' Provident Regional Office, and StateBank of Travancore Zonal Office are in this Colony. Staff quarters of these offices are also in this colony. At present three hundred and forty one families are residing in this colony and apart from this, hundreds of other families also surround the colony.

According to the specifications of "HUDCO" and the Building Rules of the Government, C.D.A. has already ear marked two open spaces in this colony, one is 35 cents and the other is of 76 cents. In the above mentioned plot of 35 cents a nursery school is functioning and the 76 cents ground is now used by the young and old alike for playing and jogging ,by the people on and off the colony.

C.D.A. had adhered to the norms kept by HUDCO in the beginning, but violating the norms, they tried to usurp the land from us and sell it to Laksha Deep administration. But this unholy attempt of the C.D.A. was prevented by the timely approach of "Sasthri Nagar Residents' Association" who sought the help of the Court of Law and got a judgment favoring and sanctioning the continuation and development of the play ground from the High court.

People on and off the colony wish to have a very good play ground here and the Judiciary has also favored the same. Keeping this as a background we are attaching a project report for the said purpose.

We are requesting your good self to go through the matter seriously and do the needful so that the plot may be allotted to "Sasthri Nagar Residents' Association" to enable this ground to be converted into a good play ground, where games, tournaments and other athletic feats could be conducted through out the year.

Liberal contributions of all kinds by way of cash or kind may kindly be given.

Yours Faithfully,
President.               Secretary.
